Because of You, God’s Light Shines

This weekend, we celebrate the birth of the church. The Easter season has come and gone; Jesus has ascended to God, and now we receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit.

The account of Pentecost in Acts 2 draws us into some of the most vivid imagery in scripture. The combination of wind, fire, and a smoky mist, together with people gathered from far and wide, created a holy chaos in which each spoke in their own language. Many wondered what on earth was happening. And then dear Peter quoted the prophet Joel who said, “In the last days it will be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy and your young men shall see visions and your old men shall dream dreams.”

And so, the Holy Spirit made her home in you and in all people just as Jesus said she would. The Christian church was established to do God’s work in the world while the community continued to wait for Jesus’ return.

We, dear friends, are still inspired by the Holy Spirit to do the work of God. We continue to shine God’s light in our families, churches, and communities. You continue to live into the holy chaos of the Holy Spirit bringing the love of Jesus in and through the many ministries and programs you support as participants and members of Central Lutheran.

And so, as we celebrate the birthday of the church, we also celebrate you. On behalf of the Generosity Team and staff, we say thank you for your presence and your faithful worship. Thank you for your service to the church and the world God made. Thank you for all the ways you allow the Holy Spirit to work in and through you. Because of you, God’s light shines.

See you in church,
Pastor Stephanie
