Karen Knox

Coordinator for Shared Ministry

I was born and raised in Philadelphia, fondly referred to as Philly. I moved to the North Loop in Minneapolis when I arrived here and have not budged since 1999. I attended Catholic elementary school followed by John W. Hallahan Catholic Highschool for Girls (and believe it or not, that all fits on my class ring!), and then graduated from an HBCU, Delaware State University in Dover, Delaware with a bachelor’s degree in urban studies.

If I skip from birth until I came home from college, I can share that my entire work experience has been with the Lutheran church. I took a part-time position with the Lutheran Church in America on Queen Lane in 1978 (really folks, it was supposed to be part-time!). That took me to the Division for Professional Leadership, and then to the newly formed ELCA and the Commission for Multicultural Ministries in Chicago, and then the Office of the Bishop, and then to Minneapolis. This was not my doing, not at all. If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plan! This is most certainly true.

I’ve been part of the Central Lutheran community since June 28, 1999. I love all parts of my work but especially those that involve building relationships with folks. I come from a family of six, two brothers and three sisters. I am the first born and my role has been listener, mediator, confidant, and disciplinarian. Now aren’t those the best roles to help prepare you for serving in the church?

I enjoy settling down in my apartment and watching food cooking shows, crime shows, and Parking Wars.
