Arts

At Central, we are blessed to be surrounded by beauty. From our gorgeous grounds to the art gracing our walls to our cathedral-style sanctuary. Our volunteers and staff work hard and use their artistic gifts to make sure that our spaces are welcoming and pleasing to the eye.

Fine Arts Ministry Team

The Fine Arts Ministry team works to curate, preserve, and show the collection of fine art pieces in Central’s collection. They also invite artists from our community to share their art in public shows in the Central building. Finally, they are the team that makes all determinations about acquiring more art for the collection.

New art shows are selected multiple times each year. They can be viewed in the South Entryway and the Fireside Room, depending on the size of the exhibit. Learn more about our most recent show.

Garden Ministry team

The Garden Ministry Team at Central is committed to helping beautify the little corner of downtown that we have been entrusted. They meet for planning purposes twice a year. Those meetings are to figure out what gets planted where and when in the Spring and then in the fall to plan cleaning up, putting the gardens to bed for the winter, and outdoor decorating for Christmas. During the growing season there are opportunities for people who serve on this team to water the plants when needed and to gather together once a month to pull the weeds.

Décor Ministry Team

Worship is an important part of our spiritual lives. We are called to be in relationship with God, with our beloved neighbors, and with the world around us. How we experience our worship and community space impacts that. The space communicates a great deal in how we move, what our eyes are drawn to, and how the symbols we see interact with the rest of worship. It’s a powerful way of communicating the spiritual and emotional aspects of the season and pointing to what is most important in the texts or theology.

The Décor Ministry Team often works within the theme for the season that the pastors are planning their sermons around or that the musicians have decided to focus on. So sometimes it’s a hymn, sometimes it’s a Bible text, and sometimes it’s a broader theme. The design team takes that theme and thinks about it in visual terms, sometimes abstractly and sometimes very literally, and then add ideas of their own, considering the gifts and limitations of the space. All of that comes together with some traditional things we like to use year after year and some unique or new ideas just for this year.
