Adult Formation

Connection and lifelong learning are important to our community at Central. Whether you’re interested in deeper exploration of the Bible, theological discussions on current events, or just an adventure with friends, you can connect with other adults in meaningful ways.

Bible Studies

Seasonal Bible Study

Members and friends gather over a four-to-six-week period for a more comprehensive look at specific books of the Bible or biblical themes. Often seasonally focused, our reflections open us to the many ways Jesus influences us all. This group gathers on Wednesday nights at 6 p.m. (during scheduled times), and you can join in person or online.

Sunday Learning

Adult Forums

Guided by pastors and outside speakers, Adult Forums are an opportunity for you to take a 360-degree look at the ways faith is at work in our lives biblically, theologically, and academically. Adult Forums meet on Sundays between services at 9:30 a.m. during the program year (September through April).

Empowering Conversations

Experience social justice in real time. Together, we encourage equity across society and learn how to be good neighbors to all. On the third Sunday of each month, speakers share stories about their personal experiences in our community and world, helping to broaden our perspectives. Empowering Conversations happens on the third Sunday of the month at noon during the program year (September through April)

Reading and Discussion

Central Book Club

The Central Book Club is a space for guided conversations about a different book each month. We look toward faith and life in everything we read, across a variety of genres. All are welcome to join the Book Club, which meets in person on the second Thursday of the month at 1:30 p.m.

Summer Reading

Pastors choose a book each summer for us to explore. In recent years, we’ve read The Life of the Beloved by Henry Nouwen, Falling Upward by Richard Rohr, and Jesus and the Disinherited by Howard Thurman.

Prayer and Spirituality

Regular Prayer Practice

You are invited to join the Listening for God contemplative prayer group at any time. The group gathers each second Sunday of the month at 12:30 p.m. Pastor Peter leads this prayer gathering grounded in various contemplative prayer practices.

On Mondays at noon, the Spiritual Listening group gathers for conversation and you are welcome to join. Pastor Melissa leads this conversation, drawing from the Ignatian Spirituality Project and the ways it opens us all in this faith community.

Prayer Retreats

Prayer retreats are regularly offered during the year, where we gather to learn, share, and practice new prayer exercises together, over the course of a day or a weekend.
