Central is now Climate Justice Certified!

The Central Cares for Creation (C3) Team applied and was selected to join other congregations as a Certified Climate Justice Congregation (CJC). Please visit the Minnesota Interfaith Power and Light (MNIPL) website to read more about this community.

We are hopeful that by joining other interfaith teams that are committing their time and talents to caring for God’s creation, we can strengthen our voices and have a positive impact on our community by raising awareness and encouraging all of us to take steps toward positive change.

MNIPL noted in our acceptance letter that Central Lutheran has accomplished much over the past year. They were particularly impressed with our work on Zero Waste, including touring the HERC, our dedication to education and plans for Jim Antal to speak in April 2026, and our implementation of a compost program at the church. They noted that our commitment has never been more vital.

2024 revealed a yet hotter global average temperature than 2023, which was the hottest year in 125,000 years. Despite this, U.S. political leadership has withdrawn our country from the Paris Climate Accord, gutted the Environmental Protection Agency, and is reversing course on renewable energy in favor of fossil fuels, which the scientific community has recognized as the primary cause of climate change.

In the face of this, being a climate justice congregation makes a huge difference. The CJC Program honors the hard work earth-care teams put in, such as educating congregation members, speaking up at public utility commission hearings, turning used plastics into benches, installing bike racks and solar systems, advocating for wild rice and electronic waste recycling, and more. Your work to heal our relationship with our planet is nothing less than mission and almsgiving.
