Introducing the Faith Statements Project

Each year, we ask our confirmands (ages 13-15) to answer questions about their faith and spiritual identity. And each year, these students, as a part of this important faith milestone, compose an answer to those questions in the form of a “faith statement.” Taking the time to reflect on one’s relationship with God is an integral part of every Christian’s understanding of their faith.

The theme for our program year is “The Welcome of a Steadfast God: Inviting All the Questions.” With that great theme in mind, we have begun collecting faith statements from congregation members of all walks of life. From September 2026-August 2027, you can expect to learn the faith stories of your fellow church community members in the Faith Statements Project.

The pastors have identified specific individuals who have been invited to share. We expect that this project will illustrate the diversity of experience of this church community, reconnect our faith to our shared church life, and tell Central’s story in a new way.

The faith statements will come to you via different mediums; some will be written for you to read, while others will be recorded interviews with the pastors that you can view online. All mediums will tell a new piece of Central’s story.

Though not everyone was invited to share their faith statement with the whole congregation, everyone is invited to reflect on the same questions and think of how your own faith statement would sound or what it might look like. Perhaps doing so will inspire some questions of your own, for your pastors, your neighbors, this faith community, and for God.

The Welcome of a Steadfast God is for everyone. We (Central Lutheran) and God invite all the questions, even the hard ones for which we may not have answers. The “steadfastness” in this theme reminds us that even in the most complex of questions, God is with us.
