New Art Show from Artist seangarrison!

The Central Fine Arts Ministry Team is proud to present a new art show from artist seangarrison.

seangarrison (b.1968) is a native Detroiter currently residing in Minneapolis, MN. He is a writer and abstract painter. Both of these disciplines cross-influence the other. His influences range from the words of writers Nikki Giovanni, Amiri Baraka, Pablo Neruda and Yusef Komunyakaa to the art of Frank Bowling, Jackson Pollack, Willem de kooning and Ed Clark. A self-taught artist, he feels that artists should have a foundational understanding of art, but that art is conceived in the soul of the artist and instantiated with academic knowledge.

He enjoys visual art in its entirety; however abstract art’s ability to elicit different responses to “What is it?” intrigues him – as he believes no answer is essentially wrong.

seangarrison is known for his live painting events, in which he creates an abstract painting in the presence of a group of people. One notable event took place in 2021 outside the Hennepin County Government Center while a crowd was waiting for news of a verdict in the trial of Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd.

seangarrison believes his core resonates and his mind functions with the way an abstract painting often looks: colorful, free and “all over the place, with the appearance that it’s going nowhere and everywhere concurrently.” He appreciates the ability of abstract art to allow the viewer to define what it means to them, what they see, through their life’s lens. Which is where their truth is born.

seangarrison says, “I am a studio artist who is moved to be both a performative and interpretive artist through abstraction; translating each of my synaptic reactions to what stirs my soul on canvas or whatever surface calls me, so that others can feel.”

Please check out this incredible show in the North Entry Hall and Fireside. 3D glasses are available at the Welcome Desk. Learn more about seangarrison on his website.
