“Next to the Word of God, music deserves the highest praise. The gift of language combined with the gift of song was given to humankind to proclaim the Word of God through Music.”

-Martin Luther

The Central Choir

Mark Sedio, conductor
Jane Lien, accompanist
One of our congregation’s longest on-going groups, the Central Choir offers singers a unique means of participation that deepens spirituality, that offers a different dimension to weekly worship experience, and offers an outlet for using one’s God-given talents to benefit the congregation’s worship life as a whole. Plus, it’s just plain fun! The choir rehearses each Wednesday from 7:15 to 9:00 p.m. in the choir room. Generally, the choir sings September through May for the 10:30 a.m. worship service as well as for major church festival days. In addition to weekly anthems and liturgical music (psalm settings, hymn stanzas, etc.), the choir focuses on larger-scale works presented in the context of worship.

Choristers

Jane Lien, director
Central Choristers is our children’s choir (for young singers in grades 1 through 5). In addition to preparing songs for worship, children experience music games (that help with reading notes, rhythm, pitch differentiation, etc.), activities to facilitate understanding of our Lutheran heritage, hymns and liturgy. Drumming and handchimes are also a part of the program.

Central Bell Choir

Jane Lien, director
Central’s bell choir, Campanas Central, rehearses Wednesdays from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. September through mid-May. The group generally plays for services once a month as well as for many of Central’s festival services. The group, consisting of 12-13 players, performs a wide variety of music using a five-octave set of Schulmerich hand bells, a three-octave set of Schulmerich hand chimes and often various percussion instruments. Players in bell choirs need to depend on each other-it truly is a group effort. As a result members tend to form close relationships and enjoy eachother’s company. We have a good time at our rehearsals and try to plan a couple of get-togethers each year. If you are interested in playing bells please contact Associate Cantor Jane Lien  at jlien@centralmpls.org or 612-767-9231.

Silver Bells

Jane Lien, director
Silver Bells is a group of Central’s senior members who get together once a month (the 2nd Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.) to play hand chimes and to have fun. No musical experience is necessary. A couple of times a year we perform in south commons as people enter the building for Sunday services, and we are often asked to play at senior gatherings. All for fun! If you are interested in playing bells please contact Associate Cantor Jane Lien  at jlien@centralmpls.org or 612-767-9231.

Saturday Evening Worship
