Rehearsal Night Begins

Rehearsals have begun!

All three Central Choirs (Adult, Choristers, and Handbell) will rehearse on Wednesday nights in 2023. Dinner will be provided for all Wednesday evening activity participants (Choirs and Bible Study) at 5:30 p.m. If you are interested in joining one of our choirs, there is still time! Read on for more information, rehearsal times, and contacts!

Central Choir

Who: Adults and high schoolers
Rehearsal time: Wednesdays, 7:15–8:45 p.m. beginning September 6
Contact: Joe Osowski, Interim Choir Director <josowski@centralmpls.org>
The Central Choir sings at the 10:30 a.m. worship service September – May and for all major church festivals. A wide variety of music is sung, from Palestrina and Bach to global music and spirituals. Good music reading abilities are extremely helpful. There are no auditions. Instead, we maintain a two week “trial” period in which both new singers and director ascertain whether the fit is a good one.

Choristers (children’s choir)

Who: elementary and middle schoolers
Rehearsal time: Wednesdays, 6-7 p.m. (dinner served at 5:30 p.m.) beginning September 6
Contact: Isaac Drewes, Acting Director for Worship and Music <idrewes@centralmpls.org>
Webpage: https://www.centralmpls.org/choristers/
Choristers learn the fundamentals of choral singing and musicianship, singing at 10:30 a.m. worship 1-2 times/month. Younger singers learn basic music-reading skills, while those 4th grade+ work through the Royal School of Church Music’s (RSCM) Voice for Life, a comprehensive music theory and literacy curriculum. There are opportunities to sing with the adult choir, and other chorister programs around the region. Prior musical experience is not required, and there is no audition.

Bell Choir

Who: adults and high-schoolers with basic music-reading proficiency
Rehearsal time: Wednesdays, 6-7 p.m. beginning September 20
Contact: Isaac Drewes, Associate Director for Worship and Music <idrewes@centralmpls.org>
The Central Lutheran Church Bell Choir performs a variety of handbell music throughout the program year. It is an engaging and unique way to make music together, and we have openings this fall. Basic music-reading proficiency is necessary, but prior bell-ringing experience is not required; we will teach you the techniques! This ensemble plays in worship approximately once-a-month.

StreetSong MN Choir

Who: Persons ‘experienced’ in homelessness – i.e. persons currently or formerly homeless, and those who care about them.
Rehearsal time: Mondays, 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.
Contact: Katie Dillon, Director of Align Minneapolis: <katie@alignmpls.org>
StreetSong draws on the experiences, hopes, and aspirations of its members to produce a choral experience promoting personal fulfillment and the development of community. A meal is available prior to rehearsal, and bus tickets are provided. The choir has appeared at the Central Library in downtown Minneapolis, the Mall of America as part of its Holiday Music Festival, the annual Homeless Memorial March and Service and at various churches and mosques. In April 2016, StreetSong MN performed at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts.
