September Worship Life
As our readings from Luke continue through September Jesus teaches his disciples about the Kingdom using a variety of images. We kick off the program year with the story of Zacchaeus. Then comes the faithful manager, poor Lazarus and the rich man, and the mustard seed. New worship schedules take effect after Labor Day. Consider inviting a guest with you to worship as the excitement of the program year resumes. We will start the program year off right by blessing all our lay ministries on the weekend of September 12. This month also marks our fourth anniversary of Pastor Rick’s installation. Our seasonal worship team has shaped the Autumn worship pattern to reflect images of “journeying” that they found in their study and reflection on the lectionary texts.
Our seasonal worship team for Autumn and November includes Lynn Erickson, Carolyn Diamond, Lynn Olson, Brian McKinley, Dave West, Richard Stegall, Mark Sedio, Jane Lien, and Pastor C. They will meet again soon to plan our All Saints and November celebrations.
Following Labor Day our Autumn worship schedule begins. A new opportunity to worship Saturday evening begins at 5:30 on September 11. Two services on Sunday mornings resume with Holy Communion at 8:30 and 11 a.m. and fellowship and faith-formation opportunities at 9:45. Our Central musical ensembles will be back, fresh from their summer break.
Saturday's Worship Plan: Expect quality music and preaching in a liturgy with fresh language that’s about 45 minutes long. Come as you are, dressed for lawn work; or come dressed to spend the evening downtown dining and enjoying the arts scene. All are welcome. The service style will evolve and will vary seasonally. Communion on Saturdays will be served in-the-round, all gathered around the altar. Fellowship follows.
Sunday's Worship Plan: We’ll refresh the language of the liturgy for Autumn with “journey” images, and use a brief order for confession near the prayers. The font will come to the head of the aisle. The confession will be led from there. Communion on Sundays will be served at standing stations with loaf bread and individual chalices. As always, after communion kneeling (as you are able) at the altar rail is always welcome. Beginning September 12 we will use Setting 3 (familiar setting 1 from LBW) from our Evangelical Lutheran Worship for Autumn.
Baptism Festival: Our next Holy Baptism festival is October 3. To schedule a baptism, please contact the Church Office.
"Central Crossings:" Our new series of worship and prayer events begins in November. Watch for more details. Our role as Central members in these events is to welcome the curious and the guest into our worship life for the first time as we seek to reach out to the city. Central Crossing team members include: Mark Erickson, Lynn Erickson, Aaron Forbort, Clarance Smith, Heruy Mesfen, Roberta Groening, Mark Sedio, Jane Lien, and Pastor C.
Music Event: Mark your calendar for the Central Autumn Organ Symposium Concert: Swedish organist Gunnar Idenstam performs on the Cassavant on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 7:30 p.m.
