Central Cares for Creation

As stewards of God's creation, Central Lutheran has joined Congregations Caring for Creation (C3)—a network of Minnesota congregations who have committed themselves to “promoting the active care of creation as integral to spiritual life and social justice.”

C3 is one more way to bear Christian witness to the world, as stewards of God’s creation.
You are invited to get involved!  Each member can contribute—at home, on our way to and from church, and in the ways in which we use and care for our magnificent building and grounds.

Take the Minnesota Energy Challenge!
Everyone has a carbon footprint—the amount of carbon dioxide that your household produces each year. The average Minnesotan’s carbon footprint is over 50,000 pounds, or over 2 tons of carbon dioxide annually. That’s larger than the national average.   We’re all contributors!  If every Minnesotan reduced their energy use by just 2 percent, we could stop building new power plants and start converting old ones to renewable energy. We would use less coal, which would release fewer pollutants, and help slow climate change.

The Minnesota Energy Challenge is a Web site run by the non-profit Center for Energy and Environment. It will help you calculate your carbon footprint, learn how to save money and energy in your home, reduce your impact on the environment, support communities, and save the world!

The Web site will track your total carbon savings. Here’s an additional incentive: the carbon savings of all Energy Challenge participants are tracked on the site.  This means that Central is in a public competition with other downtown congregations to see whose team can achieve the greatest savings!

Take the challenge! It’s time to get going—winter heating bills are just around the corner!
