Spire Reconstruction Underway
October 29, 2009
Reconstruction of Central's spire, damaged in the August 19 tornado, is now underway, following the installation of extensive scaffolding the past two weeks, aided by a 170-foot-tall crane (supported by 42 tons of counterweights!!). A new steel center pole will be installed, replacing the old one, damaged in the storm. The new pole will eventually hold the historic spire cross, which has already been repaired. The work is being carried out by Les Jones Roofing Company and is expected to be completed by mid-December.
You can read about the details of the project on page two of the October 18 Weekly Spirit here.

It's almost like a work of modern art!
