Five Wednesday Evenings
June 30; July 14,28; August 11, 25
A hands on, plugged in, colorful safari of experiencing God’s grace.
This summer Central is joining with many other congregations around the church in offering a new Vacation Bible School (VBS) experience from Augsburg Fortress Publishers: Baobab Blast. The great baobab tree in the expansive African savannah is the setting for this year’s VBS. Participants will actually gather under a large, three-dimensional Baobab tree replica in the Community Room, created by Central member Sean Nolan.
“We’ve created a learning and community-building experience for people of all ages,” said Greer Cherney, Central’s Youth and Family Ministries Coordinator. “A tremendous amount of innovation and creativity from some very talented members of our community have going into the planning and preparations."
Greer Cherney, Sean Nolan and Pastor Kristen Jacobson view a model of a large baobab tree that sean will construct in the community room for this summer's vacation bible school.
The experience will take place on five Wednesday evenings, beginning June 30, and continuing on July 14, July 28, August 11 and August 25. The evening sessions will start with dinner at 5:00 p.m. followed by an opening session led by the 2010 VBS Band (Simon Husbands, Charlie Durate, Karl Jacobson and Chris Stanley). For children the evening will include five “rotations” featuring crafts, science projects, games and storytelling. For adults, its off to the Elbow Room next door where Pastors Rick Nelson and Kristen Jacobson will lead the learning and discussion. The evening closes with more music and worship with the band, concluding at 7:00. It is hoped that all VBS participants will then stay for the Wednesday evening outdoor worship service on the South Patio.
"In living color and sound we are opening God’s promises for all ages and all levels of learning," said Pastor Kristen. "Some of us know a lot about the Bible and some of us know only a few things about the Bible. In the five evenings that we meet this summer no prior knowledge is necessary! We all get to start at the front end and learn or relearn the story of God together. Come for some or all of these five evenings. This is a hands on, plugged in, colorful safari of experiencing God’s grace. We have an exciting real live rock band to get us going along with an enthusiastic team of leaders ready to share hands on creative arts and activities for young explorers, and real life faith talks with Pastor Rick and myself."
The cost for the 2010 Vacation Bible School is minimal: a one-time fee of $5.00 per person or $10.00 per family.
